Look for Less: Sandals

Continuing on my Look for Less: Wedges and Flats post from last week, I have put together the Look for Less: Sandals. Although, I did just splurge on a pair of Tory Burch Miller Sandals during the Friends and Fans event, I usually choose the "steal" when it comes to the flat sandal. There is just not much to a flat sandal, so they tend to not last very long regardless of the brand name (at least in my experience). I just love having the option to splurge or steal! Check out some options for this season below:

I don't know about you, but I think the items above are dead ringers for each other!  I purchased the Target version of the glitter sandals above. It hasn't gotten warm enough here to wear them yet (although, it is finally getting there), but I am really loving them! They seem like they will be comfortable to wear, and they will be versatile. I can see myself wearing them with a dress or a skirt, or with jeans or shorts.  The neon "steals" above are a great way to subtly get into the neon trend without breaking the bank. I am also loving the bow sandals. After all, I never met a bow I didn't like!

What do you think? Will you splurge or save on sandals this season?

Friday Finds: Tory Burch Friends & Fans Event

Happy Friday! The Tory Burch Friends & Fans event is back, which means you get 25% off with code TBSPRING! I always take advantage of this event and get something I have had my eye on. Two years ago it was the Robinson satchel, and last year it was the Caroline ballet flats. This year, I really want to get the Miller Sandals in tan. Unfortunately, they are sold out in that color online, so I am heading to my local Tory Burch boutique today to try and find them! Crossing my fingers that they have them or can locate them for me! I also have a $50 off coupon for my birthday that I am hoping to use with the discount! I just love a good deal, especially when it is Tory Burch!  Here are a few of the items that I have my eye on:

Will you be taking advantage of the Friends & Fans event?
Let me know what you are getting in the comments below!

Spring Time Obsession: Stripes

I used to shy away from patterns. I was definitely a solid color-type of girl. As more of an introverted personality, I never felt like I could pull off patterns. They definitely seemed too "look at me!" Plus, I didn't know how to wear them. I most certainly couldn't wear them to work...right? Wrong. Now, I am obsessed with patterns! Polka dots, florals, paisleys (sometimes), ikat, you name it! One "pattern" that never scared me, though, was stripes. Stripes are so classic that I forget they qualify as a pattern, but they do. If you are a little afraid of patterns like I used to be, try stripes! Start with something navy and white or black and white, and then ease yourself into colors. Before you know it, you may be wearing something neon striped - two trends at once, gasp! That is how it happens though.

I am pretty sure I will forever be obsessed with stripes. I gravitate toward them. The stripe is a classic and versatile canvas that can be accented with pops of color, paired with neutrals, dressed up or dressed down, worn to work, worn to the beach - you get it. Check out some of my spring time striped obsessions:
Currently Obsessed with Stripes

Tory Burch Crossbody | Urban Outfitter Flats | Kate Spade Handbag (on sale!!) | Kate Spade Studs | Dorothy Perkins Skirt (very similar to the Kate Spade version) | Sperry Espadrilles | Kate Spade Necklace | Kate Spade Wedges | Henri Bendel Bangle | Bauble Bar Bangle | Kate Spade Sun Hat | Kate Spade Tote (on sale!!) | Nordstrom Tote | Michael Kors Wristlet | French Connection Tank | J.Crew Factory Stripe Racerback Cami
**Ways to save: Save 15% at Kate Spade when you sign up for the newsletter and save 25% at Macy's through April 29 and Saks Fifth Avenue through April 28 for Friends & Family**

Let's take a quick minute to talk about the above. I am clearly loving it all, but those Kate Spade wedges? Major swoon. I am also really loving the Kate Spade navy and white striped handbag (which is on major sale, by the way), the Henri Bendel bangle and the J.Crew Factory top! Oh, and that Kate Spade sun hat? Adorable! Now, if only money grew on trees, right?!

Are any of the items above on your spring time wish list?

What to Wear: Bridal Shower

It is that time of year! Wedding season is upon us! If they haven't already, invitations to all things bridal will start filling our mailboxes. What comes along with the invitations, besides the gifts and parties, are dresses. Lots and lots of dresses. The bridal shower attire can often be the trickiest to plan. As with all things, there are some general rules of thumb when it comes to planning your bridal shower attire.  I have teamed up with two of my favorite bloggers, Bethany from Perfectly Coutured and Renee from Style with a Story, to share our favorite ways to dress for a bridal shower. Check out our looks and some tips for planning your bridal shower outfit below!

Meghan's Bridal Shower Look

What to Wear to a Bridal Shower
What to Wear

Tips for Planning Bridal Shower Attire

1. Don't Wear Solid White
Let the Bride shine on her special day. Enough said.

2. Don't Wear Solid Black
Solid black is too reminiscent of a funeral or mourning.

3. Don't Wear Red
Red is too "look at me". It is also supposedly a hue associated with adultery. Definitely not wedding appropriate!

4. When in Doubt, Wear Something on the Dressier Side
No one wants to be underdressed. Opt for a dress, if the dress code isn't clear.

5. Keep It Daytime and Grandma Appropriate
Go for a classic and feminine look with a simple cut. Avoid anything super tight or showing too much skin.

6. Go for Color or Prints
A bridal shower is a great excuse to wear a fun, colorful dress. Go for solid bright colors like pink or yellow. Try a fun print like florals, polka dots or classic stripes. Or accent a classic navy dress with a colorful statement necklace.

What will you be wearing this wedding season? Do you have a go-to bridal shower look?

Look for Less: Wedges and Flats

I tend to splurge a little on shoes. Comfort and quality are important to me. However, even the most expensive of shoes can be the most uncomfortable! So, I guess "comfort" isn't too good of an argument. Since the average girl cannot splurge on every pair of shoes (and we all need many pairs of shoes), I have found a few "look for less" options for spring and summer. I originally planned this post with about four "look for less" options in mind. That quickly turned into at least ten! That being said, this post will feature wedges and flats. Stay tuned for part two - sandals!
If you are on Instagram, you have probably seen J.Crew Seville Wedge Espardrille look-alikes from Target a few times. I have these and love them! I also was debating the on the striped Target Merona Wedge Espadrilles above. I am thinking I might have to go back for them! They were quite comfortable and are very similar to the Tory Burch version. I am loving them in khaki! For me, I already have a couple pairs of shoes I splurged on last year that I will continue to get a lot of wear out of this year. Unless I find a pair I cannot live without, I will likely go for a look for less this season. It also allows me to buy more shoes. That is a win in my book!

What do you think of the looks for less above?
Will you splurge or save this season?

Stay tuned for the Part Two - Sandals!

Coral Chevron & Turquoise Accents

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Although it was sunny here in Michigan, it was pretty cold! I am still wondering - Spring, where ARE you? Today is supposed to be 61 degrees and sunny. Maybe, just maybe, spring is here to stay? Crossing my fingers!

So, have you heard of Modcloth? I have known about it, but only recently started browsing around on the website. There are many affordable and on-trend pieces! I fell in love with this coral chevron dress. This dress is the perfect combination of the two trends. It also ties around the waist into a bow. Sold!

I am loving coral with turquoise or mint accents. Here is how I would style it:

I have to credit my Instagram friends Bethany (bma_21 and blogger at Perfectly Coutured) and Sam (mssamanthabrooke) for introducing me to the Target wedges above!

On another note, I want to address the #megaminigiveaway that I featured on my blog last week. Some of you may of noticed that the rafflecopter and giveaway was removed from my post. Unfortunately, the host of this giveaway chose to cancel it. As you know, this was a group giveaway. There were a couple of bloggers who backed out once the giveaway launched, and the host had no choice but to cancel. I am disappointed and slightly embarrassed, as this was my first group giveaway on my blog. I am very sorry to any readers who entered the giveaway. I sincerely hope that you understand. Please stay tuned as I have other great giveaways in the works VERY SOON!

Friday Finds: On Trend Handbags at ALDO

We all know ALDO for shoes, right?  Even so, I cannot remember the last time I shopped at ALDO, and I am not sure why. My last memory of ALDO was in college.  My friends and I went to Chicago for New Year's Eve, and one of my friend's somehow only brought one shoe to wear out that night!  I remember actually running from the hotel down Michigan Ave. to get to ALDO before it closed at 6:00 P.M. that night.  Oh, the memories...

Anyway, I kind of forgot about ALDO, until I was doing my "Put a Bow on It (for Less)!" post and discovered the adorable bow satchel below (which is now on clearance, by the way!). Very Kate Spade.  Since then, I have come to realize that ALDO has an amazing collection of on trend handbags! This brand seriously has every trend covered - bows, lace, nautical stripes, bold brights and black and white. Not only that, but the bags typically range in price from $25 to $60. On trend AND affordable? I am impressed! I want them all! I won't say anything else, I will just let you see for yourself...

Friday Finds: On Trend Handbags at ALDO

Super cute, right? There are so many more where these came from on the ALDO website! It is so hard to decide, but I think my favorites are the coral bow cross body (which is technically an iPad case), the coral and navy/white striped crossbody and the black/white satchel.
Which are your favorites?

Have a great weekend!

The Liebster Award

Back in March, I was nominated by two of my favorite up and coming bloggers, Kati from Glitz and Gold and Kelly from Kelly in the City, for the Liebster Award! I was away on my Ireland/Scotland trip at the time, so I could not immediately respond. I was also recently nominated by the lovely Kaitlin from Tea and Sequins!  I figured it was time for me to finally join the party!

The Liebster Award is an award designed to promote smaller blogs with less than 200 followers.  When you are nominated, you answer questions about yourself and then nominate other up and coming bloggers! I am very flattered to be recognized by not only my peers in the blogging world, but also women that I am inspired by on a daily basis. It has been so much fun building relationships with each other in our own little corner of the Internet! Well, here it goes...

1. What was your first job?
Technically, my first "job" was probably babysitting. But, I don't know if it counts when it's your cousin! In high school, I was an assistant to my dance teacher and helped with ballet and tap classes (maybe more than that). Let's just say my dance teacher was a little strict (think Dance Moms without the drama), but I loved assisting for her! I also did private lessons at my house with girls who needed more help. However, I consider my first "real job" working at a local golf course during the summer in between my freshman and sophomore years of college. That was pretty fun! I mainly worked in the pro shop. I had to drive the beverage cart a couple of times and was terrible at it. The pro shop was better for me! Funny thing is, I never golfed while working there (why did I not take advantage?!) and have only golfed once in my life at a scramble with my first post-college employer. My brother-in-law golfed in college. Again, why haven't I taken advantage?! Things to do in my 30's: Learn to golf.

2. If you could be any celebrity for a day, who would it be and why?
Guiliana Rancic. Not only is Guiliana an E! News host, but she is also an author, fashion designer, reality TV star, philanthropist, wife and mother. She has overcome major obstacles in her life with her breast cancer diagnosis and infertility and bravely chose to share her story with the world. She is down to earth and hilarious, and I, of course, love her style. She is also married to Bill, who is equally as awesome, and despite their individually busy schedules, they make everything work and are happy! They keep it 100% real on their reality show, always laughing and enjoying life and conquering and growing from everything that comes their way - together! True inspiration. (It would also be pretty cool to be on that red carpet, but that's just an added bonus!)

3. What is your go-to perfume scent?
Despite what it looks like on my vanity, I am really not all that big into perfume.  I get confused and overwhelmed. They do look pretty on my cute tray from Home Goods though. I will spritz some on every once in awhile. Right now, the one I use the most often is Michael Kors. It is described as "Creamy florals explode into exotic spices, tamed by Moroccan incense. A fragrant creation with a wealth of personality that will capture the heart of every woman." All I know is that I think it smells good!

4. What is your guilty pleasure?
Sushi and wine. Oh, and cupcakes. And Etsy. I can have more than one, right? Seriously though, I could eat sushi every day. One time when Justin was out of town for work, I did just that. I ate sushi for dinner five nights in a row. #sorryimnotsorry. As for wine and cupcakes, I don't think I need to say much else about those. And if you've seen my mailbox, or my Instagram, or read my blog, then you know I have an obsession with Etsy. Whether for jewelry, wedding planning or home decor - Etsy is amazing! Lastly, my fashion guilty pleasure is Kate Spade, hands down. I love the Kate Spade brand because it is bold, yet classic and playful, yet sophisticated. I just wish I had all the money in the world...

5. Who is your fashion icon?
Lauren Conrad for her feminine style and fashion tips that feel accessible for the average girl. Rachel Bilson for her signature eclectic style - she can pull anything off from girly dresses and bold prints, to colorful trousers and straight-from-the-runway looks. (Plus, I am totally loving Hart of Dixie right now). I have many other style icons, but I love how Lauren and Rachel seem so relatable.

6. What is the next thing you are dying to add to your wardrobe?
The thing I am dying to add to my wardrobe would be Tory Burch riding boots. I have awhile until Fall comes around again, so maybe I will be able to splurge when the time comes around. In the meantime, I  have $50 off from Tory Burch for my birthday, and I am eyeing the classic Miller sandal for summer! Oh, and I would love a Burberry trench coat...maybe one day....

7. Do you prefer going to classes at the gym or doing your own routine?
Well, that would require me to actually work out or go to a gym. I do need to get my butt in gear though, and I 100% prefer going to classes. I need to be held accountable! I used to do a women's boot camp at 5:30 A.M., five days a week. I know - crazy! I am SO not a morning person, but I would feel awesome once the class was done!  I am loving the barre studio classes, which a perfect for an ex-dancer like myself. It is a cross between ballet, yoga and pilates. The Dailey Method recently opened up near me, and I think this will be my new go-to workout!

8. What is your favorite snack?
Hummus and pita or chips and guacamole - preferably homemade!

9. What is your idea of the perfect night out with the ladies?
Dinner and drinks at a trendy restaurant, or wine and a movie at someone's house. I also love my book club nights with the girls, which consist of wine, food and a little talk about the book. And although not a "night out", I love doing brunch and shopping, followed by mani/pedi's with my girls! Perfect Saturday right there.

10. What got you into blogging?
I have always wanted to start a blog, but did not know what to blog about. You see, deep in my heart of hearts, I wanted to major in journalism in college. However, my college-aged self was somehow more practical than my current-aged self (and must have seen the future) and chose to major in accounting instead. I have messed around with the idea of having a blog on the side for quite some time, but could never quite commit.  “I don’t have time.  Accountants are too busy.”  “I don’t know what to write about.”  “People won’t like it.”  Add in every other excuse you may think of, and I probably said it. I had been following a few blogs for awhile and recently became obsessed  started using Instagram. As I was gaining a following on Instagram, I finally gained the confidence to start my blog. I never knew that fashion would be what I finally chose to blog about, but it does make sense! I don’t know if that it is that I am thirty, or that I’ve just read so many fashion magazines and blogs, but I finally feel like I know how to shop.  I felt that with my love of fashion, my knowledge of finance and my obsession with finding a good deal, that I would have something to offer.  My husband has been pushing me to blog for a few years now, and I am glad he kept on me! My whole heart is in this blog, and I am having the time of my life! It has been so much fun meeting other bloggers and developing friendships through Instagram. And I am finally writing, which is what I really love to do.

So, that is a little about me!

For the Liebster Award, I nominate:

Bethany from Perfectly Coutured

Katelin from My Wardrobe Staples

Libby from Glimpse of Glam

Remember to pass this nomination on!

Thank you so much for the nomination, Kati, Kelly and Kaitlin!

Happy Friday-Eve!

Kate Spade Look for Less

I love Kate Spade New York. The handbags, the shoes, the jewelry, the stationary, the home goods - everything! I love Kate Spade because it is bold, yet classic and playful, yet sophisticated. I may or may not have taken small advantage of the "Friends and Family" sale this weekend...

As much as I love Kate Spade, the prices don't always work for my budget. However, Kate Spade earrings always "seem" reasonable when compared to the shoes and handbags I've been coveting. At $40-60 minimum though, they still really are expensive earrings. As much as I love a good pair of Kate Spade earrings, I will only buy them if I catch them on sale. During some recent trips to Target, I could not help but notice a couple of great Kate Spade looks for less in the jewelry department. I snagged the pink stud earrings below for myself and recently received the same pair in turquoise from my friend Bethany at Perfectly Coutured. These studs are the perfect Kate Spade look for less! I have noticed a few other great options over the past few weeks, so I got inspired to put them all together. You can purchase every look for less item below for a whopping $28 - less than the price of ONE pair of Kate Spade earrings!

Look for Less: Kate Spade
So, how cute are those sunglasses studs?! Perfect for summer! Choosing the look for less is definitely a pro vs. con situation. For the above earrings, I would definitely choose to buy all of the looks for less and save my money to splurge on something else. However, I would never give up my Kate Spade All Wrapped Up Pavé Stud Earrings...but that's just me.

Let me know what you think of the Kate Spade looks for less above!

Rugby Shirt Dress Three Ways

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend! It was freezing in Michigan, and I even spotted some snowflakes! Not cool, Spring. Not cool at all. This week's weather is going to be all over the place, too. I really hope we get to experience the spring season before it is all of a sudden summer.

Anyhow - I had some inspiration from my Friday Finds from Target post, plus a request from an Instagram follower, to accessorize the Merona Rugby Shirt Dress. The stripes on this dress are the perfect canvas and make this dress very versatile. I challenged myself to use only items from Target to keep the looks affordable and accessible. All items are $40 or less and easy to mix and match with other items in your closet. See my top three looks below!

Everyday Casual Rugby Stripes

The Everyday Casual look is simple and classic. Stripes are never out of style and simple accessories make this look comfortable and wearable for your average casual day.  The sandals add a little glam, which I love, but nothing too crazy. Alternatively, you could swap the denim jacket for a chambray blazer. However, I am loving the denim jacket with this look. A good denim jacket will go a long way. A few of my friends still have the same denim jacket that they purchased 10+ years ago! Now, talk about a classic!

Feminine Chic Rugby Stripes

The Feminine Chic look is also great for everyday. Swapping the white blazer for a pink blazer would be another cute option, but make sure to keep other accessories neutral and complimentary. I am also loving these espadrille wedges! They are a great alternative to the more expensive J.Crew Seville Wedges!

Rugby Stripes with Neon
TOTAL LOOK = $163.94

Of course, if you read my recent How to Wear Neon post, you would know that I would pair these stripes with some pops of neon. I cannot help myself! Stripes are the perfect canvas for the neon trend, and this dress is no exception. Keep it simple or add a couple pops of color, like above. Just make sure to also include some neutral accessories as well. Too many different neon items just gets too distracting. Since I used the neon jewelry and handbag, I kept the flats neutral to break it up a bit! Alternatively, you could wear neon flats or heels, carry a neutral bag and wear a simple gold watch.

I initially loved this dress for its comfortability and affordability. Not only is it a great way to achieve the trending nautical look, but it would also be great as a bathing suit cover up or look super cute with a chambray shirt tied up over it!

What do you think? How would you wear the Merona Rugby Shirt Dress?
Which of the looks above is your favorite?

Friday Finds: Target

It's no secret: I love Target. Always have. Always will. I think we all are victims of walking into Target for a specific item and walking out with all these things we did not know that we "needed." This happens to me. Every. Time. Most recently (as in Tuesday), I walked into Target just for the espadrille wedges (last seen here). Quick trip in and out, right? I did get the espadrille wedges, but if you follow me on Instagram, you saw that I also got $100 worth of other things. Other super cute and totally necessary things. I wanted even more than that though! Have you seen the Threshold line? My very limited lake house decor budget is really going to appreciate it when the time comes!

My last Target haul consisted of some items I had been eyeing for awhile. For instance, ever since I bought the green Merona cross body a couple of months ago, I had the pink one on my mind. Every time I went to Target, there was one lone pink cross body there staring at me. I finally bought that poor little cross body. It convinced me! Some of the items I had been eyeing, I scored on clearance though, so I call that a WIN!

I will be back to Target soon and with summer on the brain.
I am loving some of the dresses, blouses and swimwear for summer:

Target, you have stepped up your game. You are so smart, and you get me every single time. But, I love you very much. Keep up the good work!

How to Wear Neons: Part Two

On Monday, we started talking about the neon trend. Neon colors are seriously everywhere right now! Almost every store is full of neon accessories and clothing. How to Wear Neons: Part One featured neon accessories as a comfortable and subtle way to ease into the trend. For Part Two, we get a bit more adventurous with neon clothing!  So, how do we wear neon clothing without looking like a glo-stick?

1. Wear it with neutrals. Pick a neon top or bottom and keep everything else neutral.
It gives you an effortless look, but still captures the attention with the vibrant pop of color.

How to Wear Neons with Neutrals

2. Try pairing neon with stripes. Simple black/white or navy/white stripes work best.
Keep the neon as the bold part of the outfit.

How to Wear Neons with Stripes

3. Be extra bold and try neon on neon. But, don't go too crazy.
Include something to break it up. Neon works well with denim or chambray.

How to Wear Neon on Neon

I used to be afraid of color a few short years ago, so who would have ever thought I would be blogging about neons and LOVING it?  Whether you choose to just accent with neon accessories or go all out with neon on neon, just have fun with it!  I know I am!

What is your favorite piece of neon clothing? How do you style it?

My Spring Must-Haves

I definitely have my favorite items for spring, and I am quite pleased with the versatility of the pieces I have purchased. So, I thought I would share my spring must-haves. I have every item below, or some version of it, and I purchased everything on sale or with a promo code. Not kidding! These are my favorite spring pieces in my closet, and I am excited for all the potential outfits. It is FINALLY looking like spring here, and I feel like I have been waiting FOREVER to be able to wear some of these items! What I love about these items is that they are classic, yet trendy, and I can see the potential to transition some of them into other seasons. All important things for the girl on a budget to consider when making a purchase!

My Spring Must-Haves

Two of my go-to ways for making sure I get the best deal is by using The Shelf (see post here) and also searching RetailMeNot for promo/coupon codes prior to making a purchase online. I usually find some sort of way to get a discount using these sites. If not, I know that my fave stores will inevitably have a promo in the next couple of days, so I wait - unless it is one of those "must buy or lose out" situations.

So, tell me...

What are some of your spring must-haves?
What are your tips for getting the best deal?

How to Wear Neons: Part One

If you have been shopping lately, I am sure you have noticed that neon colors are trending for spring and summer. This trend can be a little bit intimidating. How do you wear neons without looking like a highlighter or like you stepped right out of the 80's? The best way to try the trend is to focus on accessories, like a neon belt or jewelry. Pair neon accessories with neutral clothing to add a nice pop of color without overdoing it - such as a simple white tee, black and white stripes or a chambray top.
How to Wear Neons: Part One

I am loving the neon accessories! It is a great way to subtly incorporate the trend. Part Two of "How to Wear Neons" later this week will focus on trying a neon clothing item or two.

So, tell me - have you tried the neon trend?
I say pick up one of the neon accessories above and go for it!

Friday Finds: American Eagle

Happy Friday! Who is ready for the weekend? I certainly am! Although my actual birthday is not until April 11, my big 30th birthday party is on Saturday night! I am very excited to celebrate with all of my family and friends! I still have to figure out what I am going to wear though! Stay tuned for a post about it next week.

Today's Friday Finds feature American Eagle. I am pretty sure I haven't shopped at or purchased anything from American Eagle since high school. It was definitely an "it" place to shop when I was a teen, but over time, I suppose I "grew out of it." Well, for Easter, my mom got me the adorable neon t-strap sandals pictured below. So cute! It got me wondering about that brand I loved so much over ten years ago. I browsed online and was pleasantly surprised. Although I think the brand is definitely still marketed toward the high school or college student, I did find some super cute and affordable items that I would totally wear. They have so many cute sandals, and I am loving that chevron blouse below! It feels a little weird to think about shopping at American Eagle again, but I will be periodically checking the AE website from now on.
