Friday Finds: Target Activewear

Happy Friday! Today is all about activewear! While we are working on getting into bikini shape, we still want to look semi-cute, right?! Now, I love me some Lululemon, but sadly my wallet does not. Luckily, the C9 by Champion line at Target is also super cute and wallet-friendly. As with my every day wear, I am loving the bright colors and neons for activewear, so I thought I would share a few of my favorite pieces from Target. I don't know about you, but new activewear always gives me that *extra* motivation to get moving - at least for a little bit, hehe...

What are your thoughts on activewear? How are you getting ready for swimwear season?
I am totally a yoga/pilates/barre girl, but wish to be a runner! I'd love to know your go-to workout regimen is!

Ainslee of A Beautiful Heart pattern mixed with anchors and polka dots while keeping everything in the navy family. Not sure about you, but we love the nautical vibe. And that bag! Need we say more?!

Elvy of Pigtails & Pearls styled a perfect, colorful summer look using neon pink and stripes. That skirt is definitely a summer staple!

We loved how Angela of Simply Sweet Southerner paired the adorable seahorse blouse with mint skinnies and the beaded rose necklace. Don't be surprised if you see us wearing this combo soon!

Shorts under $20

Now that summer is unofficially here, I thought we could take a minute to chat about shorts. It's a scary subject. Up until last year, I never wore shorts. I hated them, and instead, I would live in dresses and capris. A dress is still my fave option for summer, but there are definitely days that wearing one is just not practical...like, when you don't feel like having the wind constantly exposing your booty! And there are definitely days where it is just too hot to wear capris or pants. Enter: shorts. However, my problem with shorts was that they were exactly that - short! I could not find a pair that I felt comfortable wearing. They all were too short and too low cut.

I don't know what happened, but last year I found the Old Navy shorts! These super comfy shorts come in different lengths (I opt for the 5") and in a variety of different colors and prints. If you are looking for a great pair of mid-rise shorts that aren't too short, these are for you! These shorts are the first pair that I felt comfortable wearing! I eased into them last summer with white, black and khaki. This year, I've expanded my collection with bright colors and prints. They are also super affordable, so you can snatch up multiple pairs without breaking the bank! This is important to me, because I just cannot justify spending a fortune on something like shorts, and I like having a few options. When shopping for shorts, my goal is for them to be $20 or less. Target also has great options with a similar fit and style to the Old Navy shorts. Check out my picks for fun summer shorts under $20 below!
Shorts Under $20

It's funny that someone who so recently despised shorts has built such a collection of them! A dress is still my all-time fave thing to wear, but I will definitely be wearing shorts often this summer! They are the perfect thing to pack for the lake house - are they not? My favorite way to wear them currently is with chambray. Surprise, surprise! But seriously, as I am writing this, I am realizing...I kind of love shorts now! Did I just say that?!

What are your feelings towards shorts? Love or hate?
Which pair is your favorite?

P.S. J.Crew Factory also has super cute shorts available in different lengths. Keep an eye out for the next sale, so you can snatch some up at a cheaper price point!

Friday Finds: J.Crew Swimwear

Happy Friday! The long weekend is finally here! I am especially thrilled because our boat is getting delivered today! We are so excited to take it out and learn the ropes of the lake. The only bummer is that it is going to be cold this weekend. And by cold, I really mean only in the 60's. Last weekend was  just so gorgeous and hot! It would have been nice to take the boat out then! I should not complain though. It definitely could be worse. It is going to be sunny, we're getting a boat, and it's a long weekend - that's fantastic in my book.

I don't know if you noticed (who am I kidding? I am sure you did), but J.Crew came out with a crazy amount of new items this week! Of course, it's all fabulous, but I am trying not to look since I am still doing the closet remix challenge! (Day 24, if you're wondering!) Anyway, I could not help but notice the printed swimwear. Loving it! Of course, we already know and love the punk floral print (#4 below), but now we're also talking thistle, pineapple and kiwi! Obviously, with the boat delivery, I am mentally planning out my swimwear for the summer. So, in honor of the Memorial Day weekend and kick off to boating season, I am bringing you Friday Finds: J.Crew Swimwear!

Of course, we already know and love the punk floral print (#4 above), but now we're also talking thistle, pineapple and kiwi! I think the pineapple print is my favorite - so adorable! Not really into the prints? The striped bikini is a classic way to go. And guess what?! Through May 26, you can get up to $75 off your purchase in stores and online with the code SHOPNOW. Woo hoo!
Which is your favorite?
What is your go-to swimwear style?

P.S. I am very honored to be featured on a few great blogs this week! It is always a huge compliment to be recognized by fellow bloggers, so I am definitely flattered! Check out their posts this weekend when you have some time!

Memorial Day BBQ Necessities

Happy Wednesday! Memorial Day Weekend is even closer now! Can you tell I am excited for a four day weekend?! I am so lucky to have a holiday from work on both Friday and Monday, so tomorrow IS my Friday! Yippee! Earlier this week, we talked about what to wear to kick off the summer. I styled some outfits to keep you looking chic all weekend long! I am still thinking about that striped maxi dress. Love that one! As we inch closer to the holiday weekend, I put together some necessities for a fun-filled and stylish Memorial Day BBQ!

As you know, I have "lake house" on the brain almost 24/7 these days. It's a nice distracter from the closet remix challenge (10 more days...not that I'm counting or anything). As I am planning decor, I am also planning what I will need to host BBQs with family and friends. You do not need to go crazy, but a couple of bright colored and decorative pieces will go a long way. For instance, cute placemats and lanterns or string lights do a lot for the setting, but do not break the bank. Additionally, as someone who has hosted many outdoor parties and tailgates in the recent years, I have gotten an enormous amount of use out of my flatware caddy. Again, it doesn't break the bank, but it is a stylish way to set out your flatware and napkins. Bonus - it also keeps the napkins from blowing away in the wind! That's so annoying, right? You want to be enjoying yourself, not picking up napkins all the time! But of all the items I have, the Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker is the most fun! We received this as a wedding gift, and it really does make the perfect frozen margarita! No lie. It blends the ice gradually into the pitcher, so it is the perfect consistency. Although pricey, it is worth it! We are excited to move this fun guy to the lake house soon! Lastly, I am loving that condiment set from Target! So cute and fun (and on sale)!

What are your plans for the holiday weekend?
What are your necessities for a BBQ?

What to Wear: Wedding Season

It's that time of year again, when church bells are ringing and love is in the air! Yup, that's right- it's wedding season!  I've teamed up with Bethany from Perfectly Coutured and Renee from Style with a Story to bring you What to Wear: Wedding Season!

You've received the invitation for your friend's wedding in the mail, and happily started shopping for the perfect gift, when all of a sudden it hits you...what on earth are you going to wear?!

We've come up with some helpful tips to guide you as you plan for the big event!

Looking at the invitation will of course help you in knowing where to start in terms of what kind of wedding it is.  Does the intricacy of the invitation point to formal wedding, or does the simplicity of the invitation point to a casual wedding?  Commonly, if it's a black tie affair, the bride will include that on the invitation.

The setting of the wedding will likely determine your attire.  If it's outdoors, avoid anything too flowy in case you get caught in a bad wind storm.  If it's a beach wedding, avoid stilettos that will sink into the sand.

Daytime Wedding/ Casual Wedding

Casual usually means anything goes, but to be on the safe side, dressing business casual is a wise choice!

For her
  • a floral dress
  • a skirt and a sweater set with heels
  • a light colored suit
  • a pretty hat that coordinates with your outfit
  • light makeup and natural hair
  • minimal jewelry- dangly earrings would be the perfect touch
For him
  • a light colored suit, especially linen or seersucker in the summertime
  • a dress shirt, tie and dress pants (dress this look up with a blazer)

Semi-formal Evening Wedding

Semi-formal wedding attire varies depending on the time of the wedding, however it is wise to lean more towards a formal look.

For her
  • a cocktail dress
  • a dressy suit
  • a dressy skirt and top
  • light makeup with a dramatic eye, sleek or curled hair, moderate jewelry
For him
  • a dark suit
  • a blazer with slacks and a nice tie

Evening Wedding

Black Tie Wedding

This is the most formal of all wedding dress codes and generally means the wedding is an evening affair.

For her
  • a formal dress, sometimes floor length
  • a fancy cocktail dress
  • beaded or sequins clutches or purses and fancy wraps
  • glamorous jewelry and dramatic makeup and hair
For him
  • a tuxedo is the only way to go.  If you don't have one, you should rent one.

Black Tie WeddingGown | Sandals | Clutch Earrings | Bracelet

What NOT to Wear

1.) Do not wear white.
Although this rule may be seem old-fashioned and outdated, don't test it...unless of course you want various scowls thrown your way! :) It's the bride's big day and you wouldn't want it to look like you're trying to upstage her.

2.) Do not wear black to a daytime wedding
Black is too dark and drab for a daytime wedding. Chose something with a lighter, airy feel.

3.) Jeans
Jeans are never acceptable to wear to a wedding, no matter how casual the wedding seems.

4.) Anything sexy or too revealing.
If you wouldn't want your friend's grandma to see you in the dress, it's likely you shouldn't wear it!

5.) Anything with holes, rips, stains, or something too big/small for you.
Keep it classy and elegant.  You'll be in tons of pictures and you should want to look your best!

6.) Anything sleeveless or strapless to a religious wedding.
Be respectful and bring a wrap or jacket to cover your shoulders.

Do you have any weddings lined up for the summer?
Don't forget to hop on over to Renee and Bethany's Blogs and say hello!

What to Wear: Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of the summer season! It is one of my favorite weekends of the year for that reason. It kicks off fun-filled days of sun, barbecuing, boating and the beach! It is also time to break out all of our fun summer clothes that have been stored away since the fall. We're talking sun dresses, bright swimwear, sandals, maxi dresses, shorts, wedges - the list goes on! But, how do we decide what to wear to the first event of the summer season?! So. Much. Pressure. Whether you're going to a barbecue, a block party or on a boat, I've styled some looks to keep you looking chic all weekend long.

I don't know about where you live, but the weather can still be a bit unpredictable in Michigan during Memorial Day Weekend. Chambray is a great transition piece between seasons and pairing it with white shorts or pants and nautical accents gives it a festive, summer feel while still dressing comfortably for the temperature. I am all about the nautical accents this season, but who isn't? Plus, you can't go wrong wearing some red, white and blue this weekend as we honor the men and women who have died for this country!

What to Wear: Memorial Day BBQ
Oh, stripes. And a maxi. Need I say more? We tend to think that summer fashion is all about bright colors, but don't forget about the neutrals. A striped maxi dress is a classic look for the summer, and I am loving it styled with the tortoise flower necklace and straw clutch. This outfit is a great example of how to subtly pair blacks and browns. This dress is an excellent canvas, as it can also be styled a number of different ways with bright colors and accessories all summer long. You can't go wrong with a classic maxi.

If you're lucky enough to be hitting up the beach or out on a boat this weekend, you will need a few necessities - number one being a fabulous swimsuit! How adorable is this J.Crew suit? I love the pin tucked bandeau top and bow bottoms! Don't forget to pack your sunglasses and some light reading material in a cute tote!

I will be spending Memorial Day Weekend at our lake house. Although it is all torn up, and we are still working on it, we will also make some time to relax on the lake, if the weather is nice! Our boat gets delivered on Friday, so we will take it out for a spin and learn the ropes! I am definitely looking forward kicking off the summer season with a fabulous four day weekend! Too bad it's only Monday...

What are your plans for the holiday weekend?
What will you be wearing?

Friday Finds: C.Wonder

Happy Friday, everyone! I have been looking forward to this Friday Finds post all week. You see, I am very fortunate to live within ten minutes of one of the top upscale shopping malls in the country - The Somerset Collection. As a result, I am lucky to have many great stores accessible to me. Even so, there are still a few stores that this mall does not have that I have been longing to go to. One of those stores is C.Wonder. I browse the C.Wonder website frequently and am so jealous of all my Instagram friends who can physically shop there. So, imagine my excitement earlier this week when I read that C.Wonder would be opening one of its first Midwest stores practically in my backyard!! Further research informed me that the store is scheduled to open this fall. I still have a few months to wait, but I am SO PUMPED! I thought it would be fun to dedicate this Friday Finds post to C.Wonder. I love the brightness of C.Wonder, and I am particularly loving all the nautical accents the store is currently featuring. So much lake house potential here! C.Wonder is unique as it offers clothing, jewelry, accessories and home decor that is timeless, but with a fresh twist. Check out some of my current favorites below.

Are you loving C.Wonder as much as I am?
Do you have a store in your area?

P.S. Did you see yesterday's Three-fer Thursday Link Up? Link up your blog, meet some new blog buddies, and maybe you will be one of the featured three next week!

Insta-lately: Loving Stripes!

"Hi, my name is Meghan, and I am addicted to stripes."

I haven't exactly kept my love of stripes a secret. Remember the "Spring Time Obsession: Stripes" post? However, I recently realized how serious my obsession was when I was looking back at my Instagram photos. There was a week where I wore stripes five days in a row. FIVE. Whoops! Check out some of the striped outfits I've shared via Instagram below.

{Apologies for the poor quality photo - check out my Instagram page for a closer look at each outfit!}

Outfit Details (Left to Right):
(1) Boyfriend Jeans: Loft, Striped Tee: Old Navy, Bag: Target (check stores), Sandals: American Eagle (similar at Target), Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs(2) Shorts: Old Navy, Top: J.Crew Factory (old; similar), Sandals: Tory Burch, Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs(3) Boyfriend Jeans: Banana Republic Factory, Top: French Connection via TJ Maxx, Sandals: Tory Burch, Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Bracelets: J.Crew Factory and Gigglosophy(4) Top: Loft, Boyfriend Jeans: Banana Republic Factory, Sandals: Target, Necklace: J.Crew Factory (check stores), Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs(5) Dress: Lacoste (old), Bag: MICHAEL Michael Kors (old); Sandals: Tory Burch, Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs; Bracelets: J.Crew Factory and Gigglosophy(6) Dress: Banana Republic Factory (recent); Sandals: Target; Necklace: Pure Stunning, Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Bracelets: J.Crew Factory and Gigglosophy(7) Boyfriend Jeans: Banana Republic Factory, Sweater: J.Crew Factory, Tee: Loft, Sandals: Tory Burch, Watch: MICHAEL Michael Kors(8) Sweater: Loft (sold out), Cropped Pants: Banana Republic, Flats: Me Too via Nordstrom Rack, Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Bracelet: J.Crew Factory, Necklace: J.Crew (similar via Etsy)(9) Skirt: Loft, Top: Loft (similar), Shoes: Nine West, Necklace: Luxe Craving, Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Bracelet: Gigglosophy

Phew, that was a lot of outfit detail! After that, I am now also realizing I have quite the obsession with boyfriend jeans, my J.Crew Factory link bracelet, my Marc by Marc Jacobs watch and Gigglosophy bracelets! I am doing the #closetremixchallenge this month, and it looks like I might need to work on "mixing it up" a bit more. However, it is so hard to not wear those classic, go-to pieces! Obviously, they were worth the purchase!

What have you been obsessing over lately?
Do you have pieces that you wear almost every day?

Look for Less: Skirts

I just love a great skirt. I practically live in skirts and dresses during the summer time. I tend to splurge a little on skirts since I do get a lot of wear out of them. Skirts are so much more fun to wear in a business casual work place than boring, old black trousers. I don't know about you, but sometimes I get in a rut with the business casual dress code. I definitely feel more stylish when I am wearing a cute skirt at work. If I find a great skirt that can take me from work to dinner, be dressed up or dressed down and worn out to brunch with the girlfriends, then it is worth it to me. (Remember my "price per wear" rule and my 70/30 rule?) Even so, I cannot splurge on every skirt, so I am always on the hunt for more affordable alternatives. These look for less options are perfect for us budget fashionistas who cannot afford to splurge all the time, but want something cute and stylish. Even better? You can get all four of the looks for less for only $105! That is less than any of the individual splurge options below. Don't you love it?

Neon Pink and Polka Dots

Well, Monday has made its appearance again. Doesn't it always come too soon? I hope all of you mothers out there had a wonderful Mother's Day! We had brunch at my grandparents' house to celebrate with the family. It was very nice. This weekend I also got to see one of my friends in a local community theatre production of Chicago the Musical, which was a lot of fun! Justin is home now from the lake house. He has been working so hard on the renovations and is very exhausted and sore. I am so lucky to have such a hard working husband. He works his regular job, teaches an accounting class at a local college one day a week on the side, and is now working on the renovations in his only spare time. I am pretty sure we are already over budget in certain areas, but are we at all surprised about that? I watch enough HGTV to know that that was inevitable at some point, hehe.

Anyway, today's outfit is kind of all over the place, but I love it. We are covering a few trends with the neon pink, and the pattern mixing of stripes and polka dots. I like that the pattern mixing is subtle, and the neon pink sweater and striped popover give it more of a preppy feel instead of a flashback to the 80's feel. Did I mention that I scored these polka dot skinny jeans on super sale at Old Navy for $8?! When you find a deal like that, don't you want to shout it from the roof tops? The only thing I didn't like about the Rockstar skinny jeans from Old Navy was that I had to size up a couple of sizes. That is just not good for the ego, but I got over it quickly for the price. $8 was definitely a steal! Check out the look below:

Sweater: J.Crew (in neon azalea) | Top: J.Crew | Denim: Old Navy (similar at Gap
Shoes: Nine West | Bag: Target | Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Bracelet: Gigglosophy | Earrings: Kate Spade

Can we also talk about the Target cross body bags? I am obsessed! I started out with just the green, but now I have every color. I could not resist them when they went on clearance. Definitely check out your local store, because they are now as low as $13!

Don't you just love a good steal?

Friday Finds: Straw Totes at Every Price Point

Happy Friday! This week seemed to fly by for me, which never seems to happen! My husband took some days off and has been working on the lake house renovations since Wednesday, so it has just Charlie (our Westie) and me for the past couple of days. Justin is coming home Sunday afternoon, and we are both looking forward to seeing him! Renovations are going well so far, but I am definitely anxious for it to be finished. I am starting to accumulate more and more decor, and I am ready to start decorating! Our boat is also getting delivered Memorial Day weekend -  yippee! The house will not be finished yet (it will be close), but we will definitely be taking the boat out for a spin regardless. Basically, it is pretty impossible these days to not have the lake house on the brain.

Of course, thinking about the lake house means summer is also on the brain. One of my staple items for summer is a straw tote. A straw tote is the perfect summer bag. J.Crew said it best in its description of the Farmer's Market Tote below: "Everything we want in a summer bag: Hand crocheted in resilient straw, it folds flat for easy packing and is roomy enough for toting all your essentials from the beach to the city streets." I couldn't agree more! I found the perfect straw tote last summer at Target, and it will be on repeat again this summer. You definitely do not have to break the bank to find the perfect straw tote. Check out some fantastic options at every price point below.
